Cellular Pleomorphic Adenoma in the Left Parotid Gland
Parotid Tumor Surgery in Istanbul by Prof. Cetin Vural, M.D.
A male patient, 37 years of age, presented with a long-standing complaint of a mass under the cheekbone on the left side of his face. Following an examination, it was determined that there was a salivary gland tumor in the front portion of the parotid gland.
The patient underwent a parotidectomy surgery while preserving the facial nerve. Initially, a portion of the parotid gland that was located on the surface of the facial nerve was partially removed. Then, without damaging the nerve branches or the capsule surrounding the tumor and without any cells being spilled, the 3cm mass located in the dermis of the branches leading to the lips and nostrils, was removed by following the facial nerve forward.
Our patient was discharged with normal facial movements on the second day after the surgery. The histopathological result of the removed mass was reported as a Cellular (Rich in Cells) Pleomorphic Adenoma.
