Pleomorphic Adenoma Surgery in Istanbul - Prof. Cetin Vural, M.D.

A thirteen-year-old male patient applied to our clinic with a mass under the right ear that was noticed a month ago. In the examinations, it was understood that it was a tumor originating from the parotid salivary gland.

A parotidectomy operation was performed with a facial nerve monitor to preserve the facial nerve and prevent further facial paralysis. The tumor was removed with some healthy salivary gland tissue around, without damaging the capsule. The result of histopathological examination was reported as Pleomorphic Adenoma.

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common benign tumor of the salivary gland. This tumor can also occur in children from time to time. The treatment is to completely remove the facial nerve without damaging its capsule, as in adults.
